UFCW Local 400 issues joint endorsement with other local unions collectively representing more than 50,000 Maryland workers
LANDOVER, MD – The United Food & Commercial Workers Local 400, which represents tens of thousands of men and women working primarily in grocery stores throughout the state, announced it has endorsed Donna Edwards for senate.
UFCW Local 400 is joined by UNITE HERE Locals 25, 7, and 23, as well as ATU Local 689. Taken together, the joint endorsement represents more than 50,000 hardworking Marylanders.
Mark Federici, President of the United Food and Commercial Workers Local 400, issued the following statement regarding this round of endorsements:
“I’ve been involved in state and congressional politics for decades, and I can honestly say that Congresswoman Edwards truly understands the everyday struggles of working families in Maryland.
“Congresswoman Edwards has always been there for our hardworking members and their families. She’s stood on picket lines with us, led the fight to raise the minimum wage, and never hesitated to speak out against bad trade deals that threatened our livelihoods. She’s willing to take on the tough fights for our members regardless of which direction the political winds are blowing. We are proud to stand with her now in her race to become Maryland’s next Senator, and we are confident that she will continue to be a progressive voice for working families.
We are proud of all that Congresswoman Edwards has accomplished, and we look forward to her much-needed leadership in Congress.”
