Thank you to all of our members who helped make a difference
In the 2024 elections, UFCW Local 400 members turned out to vote and engaged in political action in record numbers, helping to propel many recommended candidates to victory in the November 5, 2024 elections, especially in Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia.
However, while our members played an important role in winning all of the DMV’s Electoral College votes for Vice President Kamala Harris, she lost the presidency to Donald Trump, requiring us to fight next year to stop his anti-worker policies and appointments.
“I want to thank our members for voting and for all of their hard work in supporting those candidates who have our backs,” said Local 400 President Mark P. Federici. “In electing Angela Alsobrooks to the Senate from Maryland and re-electing Virginia Senator Tim Kaine, we’ll have two staunch allies in fighting against the anti-worker extremism we expect from a second Trump Administration. Our work to elect pro-worker candidates in the House will be equally important in protecting our members from the harm he will seek to inflict on us.
“Elections have a direct impact on our lives, which is why political action is so critical,” he said. “But equally important is legislative action — the work we do in between elections to pass pro-worker laws. That’s why we must ready ourselves for major fights to come when the new administration tries to reverse the Biden-Harris Administration’s advances in strengthening workers’ rights and collective bargaining — and the important work of the Federal Trade Commission in seeking to block the job-killing Kroger-Albertsons merger. No matter how tired many of us may feel after this election, we must mobilize to make our voices heard in the critical battles to come.”
