LANDOVER, Md. (March 6, 2025) – Both candidates endorsed by three United Food & Commercial Workers (UFCW) local unions in Maryland won important special primary elections on March 4: Aisha Braveboy overwhelmingly won the Democratic nomination for Prince George’s County Executive and Shayla Adams-Stafford handily won the Democratic nomination for the District 5 Prince George’s County Council seat.
The three unions – UFCW Local 400, UFCW Local 27, and UFCW Local 1994 MCGEO – represent thousands of union members in the county working in a wide variety of industries, including grocery, retail, health care, cannabis, and more, as well as the public sector.
“Aisha Braveboy has been a fighter for UFCW Local 400 members for many years through her service as State’s Attorney and member of the House of Delegates,” said UFCW Local 400 President Mark Federici. “We know she’ll continue to stand with us and with all working families as County Executive.
“Shayla Adams-Stafford has also been a strong advocate for union members and working people throughout her career and we look forward to working closely with her on the County Council,” Federici said.
“UFCW Local 1994 MCGEO congratulates Aisha Braveboy and Shayla Adams-Stafford on their well-deserved victories,” Gino Renne, president of Local 1994 MCGEO. “We look forward to working with them to advance policies that uplift our communities, promote economic justice and strengthen labor rights.”
“I’m especially proud of the work our members did to support these outstanding candidates,” Federici added, “and we will continue our activism on their behalf right through the June 3rd General Election. Now more than ever, it’s critical that we have strong allies in local office in the face of an anti-worker, pro-billionaire administration in Washington, D.C.”
The County Executive special election is being held to replace Angela Alsobrooks, who was elected to the U.S. Senate last fall. The District 5 special election is being held to replace Jolene Ivey, who was elected to an At-Large County Council seat in November.
