In January, we informed you that Kroger was proposing steep cuts to our health care benefits for members working under our Richmond/Tidewater and Roanoke contracts.

But now we have good news to share: after multiple meetings with Kroger over the last several weeks, they have backed off their proposed cuts! Our health care benefits remain fully funded and secure as they should be.

We held the line and Kroger knew we wouldn’t let them slash our health care without a fight. We make this company successful and Kroger does not need to cut our benefits to continue to succeed.

But we know this battle isn’t over. Soon we will begin bargaining our next Roanoke contract with Kroger. And just like every time we sit down to negotiate a contract, Kroger will want to cut our benefits and we’ll have to fight to keep them. But we won’t back down and they know it.

In the meantime, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to us. Talk to your shop steward or union representative, or call our headquarters at 301-459-3400 (Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.).
