Today we met with Safeway negotiators for the first time since Tuesday. While we made progress on several of our goals earlier this week, we remain far apart on pension.
Safeway is continuing to refuse to fund our pension. A pension is a promise. After decades of hard work for Safeway, you deserve the retirement security you were promised. We will not allow Safeway to break its promise and eliminate the pension benefits that we have worked hard to earn.
We must continue to prepare to go on strike if that’s what it takes to get a fair contract. Read our guides on how to prepare for a strike and answers to frequently asked questions. Talk to your shop steward and/or union representative if you have any questions.
Now it is more important than ever to stay up-to-date with your union. Be sure to sign up for text alerts and you’ll never miss the latest union news.
We are ready and willing to continue negotiations to reach an agreement. Our next scheduled meeting with Safeway is Monday, March 2nd. On Thursday, March 5, we will take a strike vote at Safeway if we don’t have a fair contract. Make a plan to attend this important meeting:
