Tentative Agreement Reached with Safeway Early This Morning

After six months of negotiations, and more than two weeks after we reached a tentative deal with Giant, we are pleased to announce that we have reached a tentative agreement with Safeway at 2:00 a.m. this morning. We will present the details of the proposed contract at our meeting at 1:00 p.m. today, Thursday, March 5th. Make a plan to attend this important meeting and cast your vote on your next contract.

We are prepared to recommend this offer for ratification and we no longer recommend voting to reject the company’s proposal or to authorize a strike. Thanks to the power of our united membership, negotiations have successfully reached an agreement we can live with. While no contract has everything we want, we have made progress on every one of our issues and prevented devastating cuts to our retirement benefits.

This tentative agreement would not have been possible without the strength and unity of our membership. By sticking together and demanding a fair contract, we stopped Safeway from gutting our pension, freezing our pay new hires at minimum wage, capping weekly hours for part-timers, and increasing the cost of our healthcare.
