This week, we began negotiating our new contract with Kroger in Roanoke, Virginia.
Your collective bargaining contract with Kroger covers important aspects of your employment, including wages, schedules, and benefits. The current contract expires April 2, 2016, and we are committed to getting a fair deal in our next contract.
Meet the Team
It’s our pleasure to introduce you to the committee of your coworkers who will be leading negotiations with Kroger management. Many times over the next few weeks, this team will sit across the table from Kroger executives to hammer out the best deal possible for you and your coworkers.
This is collective bargaining at work. Unlike workplaces without a union, you can come together with your coworkers to negotiate the best contract for everyone. Without a union, you’d be on your own. Without the protection of your union contract, your job would be entirely in the hands of the company, and you could only hope your boss doesn’t do the wrong thing.
Now, more than ever, is a time to stand together. We will only get a better contract if we stick together to get the best deal for all of us. If you know a coworker that hasn’t signed up, encourage them to take part in the process by becoming a Local 400 member today.
Being a member of Local 400 means you have a voice at the table. Later on, you will be presented with a contract to vote on. You have a say in your next contract. Ultimately, you get to decide – not Kroger, not your union representative – just you and your coworkers.
How To Stay Informed
We are committed to keeping you informed every step of the way. In the coming days, we will share many ways that you can get the latest on the negotiation process.
In the meantime, if you have any questions, or would like to share your input on your next contract, please call your union representative. If you don’t know who your representative is, you can look them up here. And as always, you can call the union headquarters toll-free at 1-800-638-0800.
