Take Action to Take Back Control of Our Schedules
Last week, we met with Kroger representatives for three days. We discussed our health and welfare benefits and let Kroger know that we work hard and have earned affordable and accessible benefits. Talks are scheduled to continue every day for the next two weeks.
While we are in negotiations, we also need to continue to aggressively enforce the contract in the stores. We all know our stores have rampant violations of our contract, particularly in regard to hours and scheduling. Too many people are getting too few hours, and everyone is being given more work to do but less time to do it in. Stores are understaffed, associates are missing their breaks, managers are not posting schedules properly or on time, and many managers have been caught performing duties that should be assigned to clerks, thereby stealing hours that should have been assigned to our members.
We can put a stop to this by enforcing our contract. In the coming days, we will begin widespread actions to take back control of our schedules. Kroger must give enough people enough hours to get the job done.
Now is the time to get involved. We need everyone to participate in these actions to show Kroger that we are willing to exercise our rights and fight for the fair contract we deserve.
